Our Story
Knock On Wood Construction, Inc. was founded in 1993 in a humble wooden garage in Alhambra, California when cabinet maker Chris McCann’s first client commissioned him to design a large kitchen with custom white oak cabinetry. The client was so excited to see the work in progress that he asked Chris to install the finished sections in stages, rather than wait for completion of the entire project. Determined to deliver customer service as flawless as the craftsmanship reflected in the cabinetry, Chris hauled individual, finished pieces from Alhambra to Calabasas and built that first kitchen bit by bit, much to his client’s delight.
With those cabinets as a starting point, McCann’s reputation grew and business flourished. Commissions poured in from across Southern California, taking Chris from West Los Angeles to Palm Desert, with jobs of all sizes at points in between, building and installing a variety of custom and semi-custom cabinetry. Thanks to tremendous word-of-mouth referrals, the business continued to expand. Outgrowing the Alhambra garage, the company moved into a larger space in Rosemead, and then quickly relocated to even larger facilities in Azusa, enabling McCann’s Custom Cabinetry to even perform all their finishing in-house.
With a decade of custom cabinetry building under his belt, Chris ventured into the field of complete remodels and home additions. For 15 years he and his expert construction crews oversaw the successful completion of hundreds of these jobs, along with thousands of kitchen cabinet installations, simultaneously maintaining his work in the custom cabinet trade.
